All-Star Softball

We are officially done with ball. Tatum was picked for the 11-12 year old girls All-Star softball team. They played Thursday and Saturday and unfortunately lost both games. That isn't to say that the girls didn't have a lot of heart, they did. Tatum had a great attitude despite some political decisions by her coaches. She hopes to move on with either golf or tennis.

School House Rock

The School House Rock performance put on by the Harris County Drama summer camp was phenomenal! I grew up watching School House Rock on Saturday mornings, so to see another generation of kids getting excited about it was really neat. They didn't create any fancy backgrounds or wear any fancy costumes. They wore tie-dyed shirts they made during camp, spray painted their hair and wore it in funky styles. The focus was really on the kids and it was amazing what they did in only 2 weeks. There is a second performance tonight at 7pm at the old Mountain Hill School.
I wasn't able to get any photos of the kids. No flash photography or video taping is allowed during the performance. They didn't perform all of the songs just some of the most popular like: Nouns, Conjunction Junction, Circulation, Interjections, Bill, and We the People, and Interplanet Janet. The play only lasted about an hour, but it was non-stop action. The audience was captivated from the openning lines. Tatum was in several of the songs, but she didn't have any solos. She has a lot of stage presence though and isn't afraid to perform in front of a large audience.

Mexican Food

Well, the new El Carrizo is finally open. This is the one on Whittlesey by the new Floor America and Sleep Center. The service and food were very good. The kids and I enjoyed the cheese dip and the Carrizo fajitas(shrimp, chicken, and steak). However, if you are in the mood for a margarita or such, they do not have their alcohol license yet. The interior is very nice. Supposedly there is another El Carrizo in an old Chilji's restaurant too. Well, enjoy the rest of your week. Next week the kids don't have any camps which means I don't have to make multiple trips back and forth to take them and pick them up. I think we will try to go to Callaway and maybe a movie. The trick is making sure they both have a friend so that they don't bother each other and drive me crazy with their fussing.

Summer camps

Tatum and Mason are enjoying their camps. This is Tatum's second week of Drama Camp. We should all know the School House Rock songs by now with as much as we hear them as Tatum practices. Tatum is familiar with the camp director, Mrs. Cheyenne, because she is the Middle School Drama teacher. Tatum has had drama the last 2 years and was picked to be in Advance Drama her upcoming 8th grade year. Surprisingly, Tatum hasn't wanted any major roles, though she would do great. She is quite outspoken and dramatic most of the time at home. I guess that is part of having a teenage daughter.

This is Mason's second day of baseball camp. There are only 2 coaches for boys ranging in age from 6 - 12. This is the 3rd year the camp has been in Columbus. Mason enjoys being outdoors and staying active. Despite the 90 degree temps. he says it is fun. He hopes to learn some tips that will help him with his batting and fielding. During the season he was very valuable to his team because he can play all of the infield positions except pitcher and catcher. It was not unusual for him to play 2-3 different infield positions in a game.

The easy life

What could be better than some rest, mood music, and a good novel? Nothing except a high-speed ride on "TUBIE"!

Row, Row, Row your boat

Homerun Hitter

Mason was on a mission this year to hit a homerun. He had the determination, concentration, skill, and speed to make that happen. He brang in 3 runs total with a hit that almost went to the fence. Three cheers for the homerun hitter!

Fairy of Mischief - Beware she is known for being up to no good!

Wow, I did it! Enjoy the pictures!

This blogging stuff is much easier than keeping up my school webpage. I will try to keep current photos on the site. Please think about starting your own blogs so that we can stay in touch better. I know we would all enjoy seeing photos of the different neices and nephews/grandkids/friends. I am terrible with snail mail, so hopefully this will help me to keep all of you up to date on what is happening with the southerners of the family.

Summer Fun!

Hi Everyone,
The kids and I are enjoying being out of school. That doesn't mean we don't have a lot going on though. Tatum is participating in Drama camp (6/9-6/20). The group will perform songs and skits from School House Rock this Friday and Saturday. It is fun to see kids getting excited about educational cartoons. I remember watching School House Rock every Saturday. Mason's first day of Doyle Baseball camp is today (6/16). He will attend camp all this week. I have taken the summer of from all training and workshops. This is a first for me in the 6 years that I have taught in Muscogee County. I am tackling some "hot spots" at home. My biggest task is organizing all of my teaching resources and boy do I have a lot of resources. I have taken time to read books so far which was very enjoyable and relaxing. Monte continues to plug away at his job with a Terex and with the Mobile Attic franchise he and his dad own. He works from home which makes having the kids and I at home trickier. We don't have plans for a family vacation yet. I am researching what some of the Georgia beaches and attractions have to offer.
